Postcards – Vol.1 No.13
Howdy Folks,
On the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812 where the US tried to take over Canada I have decided, as a gesture of harmony, to become a Canadian as well as an American citizen. This means taking a test to ensure that I have adequate knowledge about my new country of citizenship. What do you think is the most important thing to know about Canada? Post your pithy answers on my Facebook page to help encourage me in my quest for knowledge about the Great White North.
Aside from pretending I am a student again, I am excited because I am going to the Maritimes to PEI, Halifax and Canso at the end of June. It was at Stan Fest in Canso where I kissed my Hubby-to-be for the first time 11 years ago . Picture a bucket of mussels, a flask of scotch, some penny whistles, some army barracks and the starry Nova Scotia skies. Romantic, ain’t it?
I also am embarking on a new record called Namedropper. I will be singing songs written for the album by cool songwriter friends of mine like Ron Sexsmith, Royal Wood, Old Man Luedecke, Justin Rutledge, Luke Doucet, Melissa McClelland, Jim Cuddy (if he gets it written in time) and maybe Joel Plaskett (if we bug him enough), Jay Harris, Rueben de Groot, Jory Nash and others. My dear friend Jim Bryson (also a gem of a songwriter) is producing it. Demos start this month so stay tuned for more namedropping in the months to come!
Speaking of namedropping, my friend Joe Boyd who has produced such notables as Nick Drake, Richard Thompson, Pink Floyd, and The McGarrigle Sisters called me to invite me to play songs of his choosing at Toronto’s Luminato Festival. Joe will be talking about his life in music on Wednesday June 13 as part of Lunchtime Illuminations from Noon-1:30pm. Come and see this great man who has witnessed and made musical history!
Ok, now get off the computer and have a mojito.

Postcards – Vol.1 No.12
Hello Everyone!
Happy Green Season!
Thanks to all who came to the Hugh’s Room show. A lovely young man named Jason Middaugh filmed it and is vigorously editing it to make me look and sound most excellent. I hope to have that on the Oh Susanna Youtube channel soon.
I have a couple of other shows coming up this week in Toronto at Hugh’s room: May 4 and May 5th Borrowed Tunes: A Tribute to Neil Young. I will be performing the songs “Powderfinger” (with The Undesirables) and “Love is a Rose”.
As always, the easiest way to keep up to date with the tour dates is to download the handy dandy Oh Susanna app. If you have an android or iPhone search the app store on your phone for “Oh Susanna” and download it for free!
Stay tuned for the next email where I will be bombarding you with information about my new secret project called Namedropper!
Now for a G&T to celebrate the end of tax season…

Postcards – Vol. 1 No.11
Hello Gentle Readers,
So as you may have noticed I got all fancy-like and decided to get an app for the iPhone and the Androids. Some of you may think I have been seduced by the dark side, and perhaps you are right, but I have never been one to shy away from evil – I like flirting with it and having a look-see. Plus my husband is a gadget guy, so really, how can I not be seduced? The app is pretty great – kind of like a little calling card that can sing to you, show you little movies and give you directions to the next show.
I am happy to say that I will be going across the Atlantic in the Fall. First to The Netherlands (and perhaps a jaunt to Paris) in September and then to the UK in late November. I look forward to getting back to where I once belonged. Stay tuned for the dates to appear on www.ohsusanna.com
In the meantime I have some Canadian shows coming up. A lovely intimate show in Toronto on April 19th at Hugh’s Room with the talented Burke Carroll on pedal steel and weissenborn guitar. The talented Jay Harris will be warming up the show. And if you happen to be in Ottawa on March 30, come see myself, as well as a handful of other fantastic musicians, at The Outlaws and Gunslingers JUNOFEST showcase at Mavericks.
See you all frolicking in the green..

Postcards Vol.1 No.10
Dear Lovely Readers,
I hope your winter is not lasting too long for you…
As many of you know I was just eating my way through Memphis for the 24th International Folk Alliance Conference. But as well as food I feasted my soul on great music too: JP Hoe, Ana Egge, Rose Cousins, Annabelle Chvostek, Jonathan Byrd, JT Nero and Allison Russell, Dave Gunning, Old Man Luedeke and many others. Please check them out if you don’t already know them.
I am excited to announce that producer extraordinaire and gossip-mate David Travers-Smith has been nominated for a Juno Award for Recording Engineer of the Year for his work on Soon the Birds and The Wailin’ Jennys Bright Morning Stars. Congratulations to David!
Also, I am getting high tech and have put together an Oh Susanna App for Android phones (and perhaps iPhones in the future). I am just trying it out and seeing if it is something that you guys would use so any comments would be appreciated. Just post any feedback on my Facebook page.
Next time I write I hope there is a bit of green poking through the grey,
Oh Susanna
